INSPIRATION

Da Vinci in the detail

The tailoring of this cashmere jumpsuit takes its inspiration from the heritage of Italian tailoring excellence and its smocking details at the waist from Leonardo da Vinci’s knots and his studies in the Codex Atlanticus.

DATA-DRIVEN DESIGN

Data in design

The colour – a rich navy, present in many of da Vinci’s tonal landscapes – was also chosen by Alice and Giulia following exclusive access to YOOX NET-A-PORTER data that showed navy as a consistently best-selling colour for jumpsuits. This is an example of the data-driven principles applied to the design process to ensure lasting luxury design.

PRODUCTION

Handmade at Dumfries House

This jumpsuit has been made by hand at Dumfries House by Tracey, Jillian, Graeme and Nicole. It is made from a 100% navy herringbone cashmere from Scottish luxury supplier Johnstons of Elgin. The cloth was chosen from an existing line, with over half the quantity needed for production already in stock, so as to reduce the environmental impact associated with the extraction of virgin raw materials and manufacturing. Its light blue lining is made of GOTS- certified organic and 100% traceable silk, made in Italy by Centro Seta. Not only are the materials used natural, but also single- fibred, so while it has been designed to last and be re-loved for years to come, it can also be easily re-made and recycled at the end of its life cycle.

CARE

Lasting luxury

Make your loved clothes last

Recommendations from YOOX NET-A-PORTER GROUP partner Clothes Doctor on how to keep this piece looking its best for years to come. Contact Clothes Doctor for more detailed care and repair advice.

  • Avoid washing by using our Clothes Brush to remove fibres, dust, dirt and hair on the garment when dry. Brush in the same direction at all times, applying gentle pressure to avoid damaging fibres (even if you find specific patches of dirt that require a little more attention).
  • Remove bobbles, lint and hair with our Cashmere Comb in Red Cedarwood which is perfect to depill. Run it gently across the fabric to catch any loose fibres.
  • Lightly steam to refresh, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and remove odour. The steam will cause the fibres and fabric to swell providing a fuller and more colourful look.
  • Place a Fragrance Bag on the hanger with the jumpsuit to naturally deter moths. Ideally also keep the jumpsuit inside a moth proof garment bag.
  • Spot clean with our Eco Wash for Cashmere and Wool to remove light stains (this does not need to be rinsed out).
  • For older or tougher stains and if the jumpsuit needs to be completely washed, then use dry cleaning as a last resort, preferably using an environmentally friendly dry cleaners.
