Planet Positive

Reducing the environmental footprint of our business and value chain by working with partners, specialists and the wider industry.

Our ambition is to reduce the negative impact of the fashion industry and champion positive change.

With our global scale and reach, we are well positioned to affect change through our business choices. However, the fashion supply chain is complex, and we cannot scale positive environmental impact on our own.

We’re working with partners throughout our value chain and more widely to harness our combined knowledge and creativity to find solutions for environmental challenges that face our business and industry.

Our commitments

Our commitments are designed to focus our
sustainability efforts on specific themes that will drive
our 10-year Infinity journey:

Commitment one

Become climate positive

Deliver CO2e reductions in line with Science Based Targets and become climate positive across our facilities and private label value chain by 2030.

  • Our roadmap to reduce our carbon emissions forms part of our mission to become climate positive, to the point where we will take more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than we generate. To advance this work, we have set Science Based Targets in partnership with our parent company, Richemont, to reduce our emissions by 2030.
  • As part of the journey to reduce our Scope 3 emissions and reach our Science Based Targets, we’ve partnered with online retailers ABOUT YOU and Zalando. Together, we are creating a learning platform that supports our brand partners in setting their own climate targets aligned with science to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and the emissions of our value chain.
  • Our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, associated with our own operations, deliveries, returns and business travel, are offset via Richemont’s carbon compensation projects, such as forest preservation projects along the Zambezi River, preventing logging in Brazil, and improving energy security and air quality in China.
  • We’ve reached our RE100 target to use 100% renewable electricity across all our 17 directly managed offices and warehouses, which we’ve maintained since July 2021.

How we measure it

  • Metric tonnes of net CO2e emitted (after carbon compensation).

Commitment Two

Source and Buy Responsibly

Work with our suppliers and our brand partners to continuously elevate our standards for social and environmental responsibility.

  • Our standards, outlined in our Supplier Code of Conduct, are in place to safeguard health and safety, animal welfare, human and labour rights, and the environment. We will continue to strengthen these standards and policies we already have in place – such as our Fur Free Policy introduced in 2017 – which can also influence the wider industry.
  • To continue elevating our buying and sourcing standards, we have assessed our Tier 1 suppliers to understand their business practices, and are next prioritising a review of our Tier 2 suppliers.
  • We continue to promote sustainability-focused brand partners through our responsible edits and platforms across our online stores, particularly those who meet the requirements of NET-A-PORTER’s NET SUSTAIN, MR PORTER’s Craftsmanship Code, THE OUTNET’s Considered Edit, and YOOX’s YOOXYGEN.

How we measure it

  • Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers assessed for our private labels.
  • % of brand partners who demonstrate a rigorous commitment to continuous social and environmental improvement.

Commitment three

Protect Natural Ecosystems

Become a zero-waste business by ensuring that 100% of our operational waste is reused, recycled or composted by 2023.

  • With more than 90% of our packaging by weight already recyclable in 2021, we are continuing to seek new solutions to reduce waste across our entire business, while giving customers more information on our packaging credentials – encouraging the choice of basic packaging for a lower carbon footprint and providing practical tips on how to re-use and recycle our packaging.
  • Across our workspaces, we’ve committed to becoming plastic and waste-free, having launched multiple green workspace initiatives for our employees.

How we measure it

  • % of packaging by weight that is recyclable.
  • Total tonnage of waste generated by operations.
  • % of waste that is reused, recycled or composted.
