40 years after the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, yoox.com and Cineteca di Bologna present the restored version of Amarcord (1973), Federico Fellini’s masterpiece, along with previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage directed by renowned Italian film director, Giuseppe Tornatore, at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival. For the first time ever, yoox.com and Cineteca di Bologna join forces for this extraordinary restoration, to reach the common goal of preserving the film’s international cinematographic heritage. The restored Amarcord will be unveiled on September 5th at 4:45pm in Sala Volpi. At 9:00pm, Giuseppe Tornatore will host a second screening of the restored opera and unveil the new footage; this event, held at the old Palazzo del Casinò, will be open to the public.
In occasion of its 15th anniversary, yoox.com supports the restoration of one of the most iconic Italian movies of all time, giving future generations the possibility to appreciate the artistic genius and the visionary talent of Federico Fellini. Cineteca di Bologna has been wanting to approach this restoration project for a long time, and it has finally been realized at Laboratorio L’Immagine Ritrovata, where the restoration started from the original negative, at 4K resolution. The restoration pool had the honor of collaborating with Giuseppe Rotunno, one of the greatest photography directors of cinematographic history, who personally and continuously verified the quality of the testing.
The restored version of Amarcord will rediscover the original beauty of the scenes and of the costumes designed by Danilo Donati, along with the lighting and colours chosen by Giuseppe Rotunno, who, together with Tonino Guerra and Nino Rota, are considered the masters of the golden era of Italian cinematography. Their contribution allowed Amarcord to become an incredible movie, now accessible to cinema fans, both present and future, all over the world.
Fellini fans will also discover the unreleased content curated by Oscar-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore. The exclusive and never-before seen footage includes a ten minute editing taken from thirty hours of alternative frames, a behind the scenes without audio, and casting auditions, all of will be revealed for the first time at the Venice Film Festival.
After the official presentation in Venice, Amarcord will be distributed in Italian theatres, through a distribution project of movie classics restored by Cineteca di Bologna.
Comune di Rimini, Warner Bros and Cristaldi Film, which in 1973 have made the production of the film possible, all participated in this project.
